Pumpkin Shaped Dinner Rolls

This fall lovin’ Libra has a serious pumpkin allergy that puts a damper on seasonal recipes but that doesn’t mean we can’t partake in the Thanksgiving themed recipes! Try these adorable and tasty pumpkin SHAPED dinner rolls. They’ll add a lil something extra to your thanksgiving table presentation. 🦃

 

TOOLS

  • Stand mixer
  • Dough hook
  • Mixer Skirt fabric splash guard
  • Bakers Twine
  • Parchment paper 
  • Baking sheet
  • Americolor Food Gel “Pumpkin”

 

INGREDIENTS

  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water (100-110 degrees)

 

Dough ingredients

  • 1/4 cup granulated flour
  • 1 Tablespoon room temp butter
  • 1 egg
  • 3 1/4 cup all purpose flour

 

  • 1 TBSP EVOO (1/2 TBSP for coating bread 1/2 for coating bakers twine)
  • Bakers Twine
  • Americolor Gel Food Coloring in “pumpkin”
  • 4 Cinnamon Sticks cut in half

 

LETS BAKE

  1. In a stand mixer with dough hook attachment and Mixer Skirt fabric splash guard for stand mixers, add 1 tablespoon active dry yeast and 1 cup warm water, whisk until frothy. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  2. Add all dough ingredients and knead with dough hook on medium speed 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Add a few drops of orange food coloring to ball of dough and continue to knead on medium speed until combined.
  4.   Lightly grease ball of dough with 1/2 TBSP EVOO, place back into bowl of stand mixer and keep Mixer Skirt on your stand mixer to cover and allow to rise until doubled in size, 60 minutes.
  5.   Turn dough onto floured surface and punch down. Divide dough into 8 equal sections.
  6. Place balls of dough on a parchment lined cookie sheet. Allow to rest 15 minutes.
  7. Cut 8 - 30” long strings of bakers twine and coat in olive oil.
  8. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees
  9. Wrap each ball of dough with 1 bakers twine 4 times at a 45 degree angle and tie a knot in the twine.
  10. Cover and rest dough for an additional 15 minutes.
  11. Bake rolls in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes until slightly golden brown.
  12. When slightly cooled, insert a half of a cinnamon stick “stem” into the center of each roll.
  13. Best served warm with butter! Enjoy!
